ML Rhodes - Fires Of Ballian

A hundred years ago, the high sorcerer of Velensperia launched a swift and deadly attack against the draegans—a race of dragon shapeshifters who’d always lived in harmony with the humans. The draegans were all but destroyed, with the few who remained, scattered and in hiding. But after a century of cruel repression, a group of them have united and begun to fight back. Their leader, Keiran Hareldson, is determined to free his people from the high sorcerer’s tyranny. For years he hid the secret of his heritage, knowing the truth would make him and those around him a target of the sorcerer’s wrath. But the time has come to fight the sorcerer in the open, and once the news spreads that Keiran is the sole surviving draegan lord, draegans and humans alike begin to flock to the draegan camp for protection.
Gaige Rizik used to be the captain of the sorcerer’s High Guard. His last assignment was to infiltrate the draegan rebel’s camp, identify the leader, and eliminate him. No one, least of all him, expected him to fall in love with the very man he’d sworn to kill. Gaige defects to the draegans’ side, and he and Keiran bind themselves to one another not only by love, but by blood when they go through the true mate ritual. With their blood merged, it allows Gaige to inherit the powerful magick of the draegan lords. But inheriting it and using it are two different things. Gaige has trouble tapping into the magick because he feels unworthy of the gift. Only half-draegan, he fears his human side and his past as the high sorcerer’s right hand will forever tarnish his future as Keiran’s mate and second in command.
When Keiran is stolen by an ancient demon from the shadow world, Gaige is left with the fate of the draegan people in his hands. They turn to him as their new lord, and he’s torn between his duty to them, and his desperate need to find his mate. Through shadow and torment, fire and darkness, Gaige and Keiran struggle to hold back the tide of the sorcerer’s ever-expanding war and stop the new and even deadlier evil that threatens their lands. In their darkest hour, only their fierce love for one another, and Gaige’s acceptance of his power, stand between them and the destruction of all they know.

Comment: The third book in the draegan series.
I think this book wsn't the strongest one and it didn't have the deep emotional level the previous book had. Sure it presented things without Kreiran and how Gaige suffers because of it, but I felt this book was more about solving some issues, tiding some loose ends in a certain way and of course, saving Keiran. I guess it's also an important book, and it is, but it didn't have the same feeling as the others.
I was happy Keiran could be saved, this couple deserves to be happy and their devotion and love is very strong, the writing is perfect when portraying their feelings for each other, great job, author!
We also see some developments on Jax's presence, on Wes's love for someone, on Gaige's increasing abilities as a draegan Lord...it's a very rich book, but as it doesn't have Keiran and Gaige together all the time, I felt it lacks the same emotion the other one had, but it doesn't mean it's bad, I don't think anything in this world would be bad.
I can't wait for book #4, I really hope it doesn't take too long to come out

ML Rhodes - Lords of Kellesborne

A hundred years ago, the high sorcerer of Velensperia launched a swift and deadly attack against the draegans—a race of dragon shapeshifters who’d always lived in harmony with the humans. The draegans were all but destroyed, with the few who remained, scattered and in hiding. But after a century of cruel repression, a group of them have united and begun to fight back. Their leader, Keiran Hareldson, is determined to free his people from the high sorcerer’s tyranny.
Gaige Rizik used to be the captain of the sorcerer’s High Guard, and known for his lethal ability to hunt down his prey with no remorse. His last assignment was to infiltrate the draegan rebel’s camp, identify the leader, and eliminate him. But the more deeply Gaige became entrenched with the draegans and their passionate, compelling leader, the more torn he became over his mission. Keiran sparked powerful emotions in Gaige and stirred a longing in him he couldn’t deny. No one, least of all him, expected him to fall in love with the very man he’d sworn to kill. When he chose to defect to the draegans’ side, his betrayal to the sorcerer came at a high personal cost. Left for dead in the sorcerer’s dungeon, Keiran barely found him in time.
Now, the hunter has become the hunted. With the high sorcerer bent on annihilating every last draegan and all those who support them, a secret revealed from Keiran’s past becomes their best hope for survival. From the deep forests of Velensperia to the ancient draegan stronghold of Kellesborne, only the strength of two determined men and their fierce love for one another stand between the people they protect and an evil conjured from the bowels of hel itself.

Comment: What's not to like about this book? The first was great and this one is even better!
In this new book we see more developments in Keiran and Gaige's relationship. We also see how it affects others around them and Gaige is finding new things about himself over time. I'm loving the series.
I think the characters are stronger in this second book. Their feelings are also stronger, more solid and heartfelt. The connection between them is eternal and to prove that is the bond they keep creating between them. I love the dialogue between them, I feel the romance, the love between them as true and beautiful. I always look for more scenes where they both are because I just know it will have wonderful dialogue and love declarations...
I think the author has created a great world, wit many surprises allt he time, which means the story doesn't get boring. She also has managed to insert amazing twists that seem different from everything else, perhaps because they work in her book or because she just writes it well or even due to the fact they're things we actually want to see there. I don'r know if it's one of these things or al of them, but the thing is, the book is wonderful to read, to savour and I loved it!
I felt sorry to finish it but I still have the 3rd to read. I hope the 4th isn't a long time coming because I just can't wait to read more about the world and the beloved characters in there.
Those who like fantasy and romance and read m/m...go for it!

ML Rhodes - True of Heart

A hundred years ago, the high sorcerer of Velensperia launched a swift and deadly attack against the draegans—a race of dragon shapeshifters who’d always lived in harmony with the humans. The draegans were all but destroyed, with the few who remained, scattered and in hiding. Now, a group of them have united and begun to fight back. Their leader, Keiran Hareldson, seeks to free his people from the cruel repression the high sorcerer’s reign has imposed on them.

Gaige Rizik is captain of the sorcerer’s High Guard, and known for his lethal ability to hunt down his prey with no remorse. His orders are to infiltrate the draegan rebels’ camp, learn their plans, and identify their leader so he can be destroyed. But when Gaige joins the rebels, posing as a human sympathizer to the draegans’ cause, he discovers the shapeshifters aren’t the bloodthirsty beasts he’s been led to believe, and their leader is a passionately captivating man who only wants what’s best for his people. Keiran sparks powerful emotions in Gaige, tearing down his walls of steely control, and stirring a longing in him he can’t deny.

Torn between his duty to the high sorcerer and his growing feelings not only for Keiran, but for the draegan way of life, Gaige knows he’s damned no matter which he chooses. In a world of lies, deception, and dark secrets, one false move will bring destruction to all he’s begun to hold dear. With the fate of so many lives on his shoulders, Gaige’s only hope is to follow his heart...and pray it’s true enough to save them all.

Comment: Since I've started reading m/m, I've read several reviews and coments about the dragon books by this author and all of them stated they were great and wonderful to read.
They were right.
I liked the story a lot, I couldn't put it down. I liked the descriptions, the world the author created and the sense of adventure in the book. I was always very curious to what would happen next, always wondering when who the main characters really were was going to be revealed. It was very good to see how things developped and even better that it happened in a believable pace. I think it helps a lot if the author can use vocabulary to help creating a sense of time passing by without being rushed. Very good.
The two main characters are a great couple and I was so happy to see they were mates and how it happened. I love romance and I enjoyed seeing theirs.
I'm so curious to how the fact they're mates will affect others around them, which means I can't wait to read the other books.
I also liked the secondary characters and want to know more about them. All in all, every little detail in the story worked for me. The story itself was fun and addictive and the said details really made it all better.
It was a great world indeed and I loved the book. Totally worth the time I've waited to read it and a great pick for this challenge.
